Beam is seeking a highly motivated co-op to join the High Throughput Synthesis (HTS) team from January through June 2025. The HTS team is responsible for the design, synthesis, and purification of guide RNA (gRNA) that powers our discovery and pre-clinical development work. The individual will be responsible for producing gRNA using solid-phase chemical synthesis and novel downstream purification techniques and will also receive in-depth training in oligo chemistry and production. The position will play a key role in supporting a diverse portfolio of drug discovery programs in a highly collaborative and fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

• Assist in the production of gRNA, including the following:
  • Preparation of the synthesizer and reagents.
  • High-throughput purification of gRNAs.
  • Analysis of the gRNA samples by liquid chromatography, UV-vis, and capillary electrophoresis.
  • Routine synthesizer maintenance.
• Maintain detailed documentation of experiments in the ELN system.
• Collaborate and communicate effectively across a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications:

• Pursuing a BS or MS in chemistry, the biological sciences, or a related field (Biochemistry, Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering) with at least one year of relevant laboratory experiences.
• Completion of an undergraduate-level organic chemistry sequence is required.
• Prior exposure to nucleic acid chemistry is preferred but not required.
• Prior exposure to chemical analysis techniques such as liquid chromatography and capillary electrophoresis is preferred but not required.
• Experience maintaining a lab notebook and following written SOPs.
• Motivated to learn and detail oriented with excellent organization and communication skills.
