The Role

We are seeking a curious, talented, and creative Legal Counsel to join our Legal team. This role will be based onsite in Düsseldorf and will collaborate with the entire Legal team to provide legal support to the EMEA region with respect to sales opportunities, and globally with respect to legal leadership of commercial distribution.

You will work closely with business leaders and cross-functional teams, and will support a wide range of legal matters serving the region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Commercial & Regional Support: Provide comprehensive legal advice and guidance to support Sales and business units’ activities, including drafting and negotiating agreements, advising on public and private tenders, and offering proactive guidance on regulatory and commercial matters across the EMEA region.

  • Global Distribution Management: Lead legal support of commercial distribution globally, including oversight and management of distributor due diligence, distribution agreement review, and training and process development, with expansive partnership across the commercial business

  • Regional Liaison: Serve as the first point of contact for day-to-day legal needs in EMEA; collaborate closely with internal business and Legal colleagues.

  • Process & System Improvement: Help design and implement scalable tools, templates, and workflows to improve predictability and efficiency; openness to leveraging AI and automation.

  • Compliance & Governance: Support local compliance matters (GDPR, ESG, employment), external counsel coordination, and corporate governance.

  • Growth Opportunity: Participate in cross-functional and international projects, including M&A, due diligence, and exploratory legal work.

Key Qualifications & Skills

  • Qualified lawyer in Germany or another EU jurisdiction.

  • Minimum 7 years of post-qualification experience, ideally combining law firm and in-house commercial experience.

  • Experience in life sciences, biotechnology, medical devices, or other regulated industries preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of EU and local regulatory frameworks, as well as the ability to quickly get confident answers for areas outside of expertise

  • Problem-solving and decision-making – this role will support multi-disciplinary projects and it’s crucial that we follow a complete, efficient process for identifying problems and implementing solutions

  • The ability to listen and learn – Bio-Techne is a complex business that takes time to learn, and effectively serving the business requires a depth of understanding of its structure, organization, customers, and people

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to communicate effectively and efficiently across functions and with all levels

  • Contract drafting and negotiation – the Legal team plays a critical role in supporting contract negotiation, including direct engagement with our valuable customers; skilled and nuanced communication skills are essential

  • Conversant with potential applications of AI systems and tools to augment or automate legal tasks

  • Fluency in English and German, with preference for fluency in French
